Woodstock Couple Killed in Christmas Eve Accident

James and Nora "Pat" Abruzzo died on Christmas Eve in a single-vehicle accident in Warren County. They will be buried today.

A Woodstock couple who died in an accident on Christmas Eve will be laid to rest today.

A funeral mass for James and Nora "Pat" Abruzzo will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta, with Father Tran officiating. They will be laid to rest at 12:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.

The couple both died in an accident along Interstate 20 around mile marker 161 in Warren County on Tuesday, Dec. 24, said Warren County Coroner Paul Rowe.

The Abruzzos were riding on the interstate when their white Ford Taurus veered into the median, causing the driver to overcorrect, steer across the travel lanes and crash into a set of trees where the car caught fire. 

According to the obituary published on Woodstock Funeral Home's website, Mr. Abruzzo was born Dec. 16, 1946, in Wyckoff Heights, New York, to the late Joseph and Mary Vita Abruzzo. Abruzzo, 67, worked as a mortgage broker with Century Mortgage.

Mrs. Abruzzo, 67, was born March 12, 1946, to the late Dan and Nora Sweeney Kirby in Dishtowel County Kerry, Ireland. She was the director of the Microbiology Department at WellStar Kennestone Hospital
