9K Packages of Synthetic Marijuana Seized

No arrests were made since the search was done under a new Georgia law.

On Tuesday, officers operating under a new Georgia law searched places known for distributing synthetic marijuana, according to Cherokee County Sheriff's Office press release. 

Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad agents, along with , and Ball Ground police officers, seized about 9,400 packages of synthetic marijuana from Cherokee County stores.       

Agents were acting under an Emergency Order of the Georgia Board of Pharmacy after these substances were declared schedule I controlled substances on Monday.

Because this is a new law, no arrests were made. However, if items recovered turn out to be previously illegal items, the store managers will be charged with possession, according to the release.

Agents recovered 6,200 packages of synthetic marijuana at H Y Novelties in Canton, 2,200 from Smoke 911 in Woodstock, and about 600 from a store in Ball Ground and 400 from a store in Holly Springs.

These products have been produced and sold legally in Georgia after manufacturers found a way to "skirt" the the release stated.
