Arrests Made in Botched Cherokee Carjacking

Another suspect remains on the loose, and is considered armed and dangerous.

Two men hailing from Acworth have been arrested in connection to a botched carjacking that left their third alleged accomplice dead and the victim injured.

Jumar Greer, 19 of Acworth, and Quovadis Arrington, 23, of Acworth were both nabbed along Interstate 75 in Jacksboro, Tennessee.

The arrests were made after detectives learned the men may have been traveling north to Chicago and a be-on-the-lookout was sent to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, which made the traffic stop resulting in the arrest.

Greer was charged with armed robbery while Arrington was charged with hindering the apprehension of wanted person. The two men are being held in the Campbell County, Tennessee Jail and are awaiting extradition.

Also arrested in Cherokee County was Quovadis' brother Tavarus Arrington, 23, of Acworth. He was charged with hindering the apprehension of a wanted person and making false statements to a law enforcement officer and is currently at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $22,400 bond.

A third suspect, 20-year-old Maurice Perkins of Acworth, is still on the loose, and is considered armed and dangerous. Deputies have charged him with armed robbery, and advises the public to call the sheriff's office at (770) 928-0239 or (678) 493-4080 if they have information in his whereabouts.

Sheriff's deputies around 2:20 p.m. Thursday received a call of a fatal accident along Highway 92 just west of Wade Green Road in southwest Cherokee County. A late model white Dodge Charger left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and hit a small tree.

The passenger inside the car, Justin Humphries, 19, of Acworth, told authorities he was carjacked, hit in the head with a pistol and then "placed in the back of the car and restrained," according to a press release from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office.

Humphries was treated at a local hospital and later released.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 27-year-old Andre Rodriguez of Acworth, was shown to have received a gunshot wound to his upper torso. An autopsy conducted Friday at the GBI Crime Lab noted Rodriguez died from the wound.
