Attorney: Mom Not Guilty of 'Horrible' Charge

The Bartow County woman and her former boyfriend, a Woodstock man, face murder and child cruelty charges in connection with the death of the 17-month-old girl.

An attorney who represents a Bartow County mom accused of murder in the death of her child says Jamie Beck is not guilty.

Cherokee County authorities this morning arrested Beck, 23, following an 11-month investigation into the death of her 17-month-old child, who was found unresponsive at a Woodstock home. Kaylee Rayne Johnson died just two days later.

Investigators, who also arrested Beck's former boyfriend, Michael Naples, 31, of Woodstock, say the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

Both Beck and Naples face felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children charges in connection with the October 2012 death.

Tony Perrotta, of the Cartersville law firm Perrotta and Cahn, tells Patch he is representing Beck.

"She is not guilty of this horrible charge. She was the one who found her precious child at the bottom of the stairs," Perrotta said in an email to Patch. "She intends to fight this aggressively."
