Cherokee Crossing Guard Struck By Car

The crossing guard is recovering from injuries at North Fulton Hospital.

A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office crossing guard is recovering from injuries she suffered after being hit by a car this morning.

Michelle Hale, 42, was working in front of Hickory Flat Elementary School on East Cherokee Drive when she was hit by a minivan shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.

Hale, who has been with the sheriff's office for 10 years, was transported to North Fulton Hospital where she is undergoing treatment for a leg injury. Her injuries are non life-threatening.

The driver of the minivan, 18-year-old Alexander Hopkins of Canton, was cited for driving with an obstructed windshield and obedience to a traffic controller.

The Cherokee County School District on Wednesday afternoon released a statement on the incident.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with this Cherokee Sheriff’s Office reserve officer and her family, and we greatly appreciate the important service she and her colleagues provide to our students, parents and staff, especially our bus drivers, every day," the district said.

Michelle is a wonderful crossing guard and we look forward to her quick recovery and return to work. It wasn't the same without her in front of Dean Rusk yesterday afternoon and this morning...
