Cherokee Fire Receives New Pet Masks

The masks were obtained through a nationwide initiative called Project Breathe.

A program has helped Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services acquire 30 new pet oxygen masks.

The agency recently received the new masks, which will be placed on 21 fire engines and nine squads throughout the county.

The department received the masks in September through an initiative put on by Invisible Fence® Brand called Project Breathe.

Project Breathe is a donation program that provides oxygen mask kits to first responders to use on animals. Each kit contains a small, medium and large mask.

Cherokee fire received about $921 in donations towards the program, said Cherokee County Firefighter Erik Mork.

He noted $500 came from FactoryMation President Russ Sanders. The donations were used to purchase 15 mask kits and the other 15 kits were donated by Invisible Fence by Peachtree

Since Project Breathe's inception, Invisible Fence has donated over 2,300 mask kits across the county, said Tim Clark of Invisible Fence by Peachtree.

The agency during the month of September placed several donation boxes in veterinary clinics across the county.

Free Home Animal Hospital on Cumming Highway was able to collect the most money for the program. Riverstone Animal Hospital in Canton will help with a training DVD that will be distributed with the kits to the Cherokee County fire stations.

The masks were presented late last week to the agency and will be distributed to county fire stations at the beginning of the year.
