Cherokee Sheriff's Deputies Seek Help in Solving Two Burglary Attempts

Two separate burglaries occurred early Thursday morning, both of which involve an early 1990s model white Ford van.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office needs the public's help in finding who is behind two attempted burglary incidents that happened early Thursday morning.

At around 4:30 a.m., a van backed up to the Hobgood Chevron at the corner of Bells Ferry Road and Towne Lake Parkway.

According to a Cherokee Sheriff's Office press release, a male exited the vehicle and broke the glass window next to the ATM machine inside the store.

The suspect allegedly attached at strap to the ATM machine and drove away.

However, the strap broke, and neither the suspect nor the van returned to the location. Nothing was taken from the property or from inside the store.

The suspect then allegedly drove directly to the Sweetwater Quickstop convenience store on Knox Bridge Highway/Highway 20 just west of Canton. At around 5 a.m., the suspect allegedly broke the front window of the store.

An ATM machine was located inside the store, but an audible alarm was activated and the suspect fled the scene.

The van appears to be an early 1990s model white Ford Econoline and has a covered spare tire mounted on the roof, add-on external “KC” type lights mounted over the rear double door and an extended receiver hitch.

It also appears as if the van has damage to the rear passenger side quarter panel above the tail light.

The suspect appears to be a white male and was wearing camouflage pants and jacket during the time of the incident. While one suspect was captured on camera, deputies believe other suspects could be involved.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or suspect is asked to call Detective W. R. Ballard at wrballard@cherokeega.com or at (770) 928-0239.
