Construction Worker Injured in I-575 Hit-and-Run

Police are looking for a gray 2006 GMC Sierra with license plate No. BNQ 3491.

Police are looking for a gray 2006 GMC Sierra with license plate No. BNQ 3491 in connection with this morning's hit-and-run accident on Interstate 575,  spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said.

The Sierra will have passenger side damage and a missing side mirror, she said.

Duncan said she did not have an update on the condition of the construction worker who was injured in the hit-and-run, which occurred at 9:30 a.m., not at 10:10 a.m. as Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Mohamed Arafa told Canton-Sixes Patch this morning.

The construction worker is being treated at in Marietta.

Duncan said she was not releasing his name or any other information about him at this time.

Original Report: 11:18 a.m. Friday

A construction worker was struck this morning in an apparent hit-and-run accident on Interstate 575 South, just before the Towne Lake Parkway exit in Woodstock, a spokesman for the Georgia Department of Transportation just told Canton-Sixes Patch.

A truck hit the construction worker around 10:10 a.m., GDOT spokesman Mohamed Arafa said.

"The vehicle fled the scene," he said. "As of now, there is no submitted time of clearance for the accident."

Police are looking for a gray 2006 GMC Sierra with license plate No. BNQ 3491, according to WSB-TV.

Meanwhile, the construction worker has been taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta with “pretty serious injuries,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The worker is an employee of C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. No one at the company answered the phone this morning. And spokeswoman Brittany Duncan could not be reached for comment.
