Family Pets Killed in Cherokee House Fire

The fire broke out early Tuesday morning near Highway 92 west of Woodstock and took the lives of a cat and a Great Dane.

A house fire that broke out just west of Woodstock early Tuesday morning took the lives of two pets.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a fire at a home at 1551 Wildwood Drive near Highway 92 at around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

A caller told a Cherokee County E-911 dispatcher that flames were seen coming from the roof of the one-story home. Once first responders arrived on the scene, they discovered "heavy flames" coming from the home's roof line, according to a press release from Cherokee County Fire.

The homeowner told authorities that a family of four was renting the home from him at the time of the fire.

No one was home at the time the fire started, but a cat and a Great Dane inside the home died in the fire.

A gaping hole in the roof of the home resulted from the fire and the living room sustained major damage.

No injuries were reported and the cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation by Cherokee County authorities.
