Firefighter Rescues Dog

Woodstock firefighter Brian Scudder entered a burning structure to save Koko.

A Woodstock firefighter saved a dog’s life in a structure fire at 205 River Run Tuesday around 4 p.m.

Battalion Chief, Greg Erdley, said the single-story house was heavily involved when Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and arrived on the scene.

After Cherokee County 911 received reports of animals potentially being inside the burning structure, Woodstock firefighter Brian Scudder went inside and found a small dog lying on the floor in the master bedroom.

“The dog was limp, and I thought he was already gone,” Scudder said.

He brought the dog out of the already heavily involved house and game him to Cherokee County paramedic, Eric Hatten, who began to work on the animal.

“The dog was barely breathing when I got him, so I put him on oxygen,” Hatten said.

Because of a quick response by both teams, Koko was saved.

The house, on the other hand, was destroyed, and Cherokee County Fire investigators are looking into a cause of the fire.

The two female residents were not home at the time of the fire, and no other injuries were reported.
