Five people were able to escape injury after a portion of a home caught fire early Friday morning.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Woodstock Fire Department both responded to the fire, which broke out shortly before 1 a.m. at 1024 Ashfern Walk, located off Bells Ferry Road near Hobgood Park.
According to a press release from Cherokee Fire, a caller told Cherokee County E-911 that a vehicle located just inches from the house broke out in a fire.
Minutes later, dispatchers were told the home's garage was on fire.
By the time fire fighters arrived on the scene, about two-thirds of the home was on fire and heavy smoke could be seen coming from the house.
The five people inside the home, which were four family members and a guest, were alerted of the blaze by smoke detectors and were able to escape without injuries.
The bulk of the damage occurred in the garage and the level above and a portion of the house located next to the garage also suffered smoke and fire damage.
The road was blocked until fire fighters finished their operation and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
