Ground Under Woodstock Road Washes Away, Strands 30 Homes

The ground in the 600 block of Stone Creek Road in the Hickory Glen subdivision washed Wednesday evening.

About 30 homes in a Woodstock subdivision are stranded as the ground under a portion of a road washed away Wednesday evening.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Cherokee County Roads and Bridges Department is at the 600 block of Stoney Creek Road, located in the Hickory Glen subdivision, where the incident happened. 

The neighborhood is located off Arnold Mill Road near Mountain Road.

"The ground under the road is being washed away (and) the road is shut down," said Cherokee Sheriff's Office Spokesman Lt. Jay Baker.

Cherokee County officials are searching for a possible location where a temporary road can be constructed.
