Investigation Into Baby's Death Continues

The boyfriend of the child's mother has obtained legal counsel and is not talking to investigators.

The death of a 17-month-old baby last week remains under investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

According to 11 Alive, sheriff's deputies would like to talk to 30-year-old Michael John Naples surrounding the death of Kaylee Rayne Johnson, who was found unresponsive around 1 a.m. last Sunday at his home on Red Bird Way just west of Woodstock.

Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Lt. Jay Baker told Patch on Friday charges have yet to be filed in the case.

Lt. Baker told 11 Alive that Naples, the boyfriend of the child's mother Jaime Nakail Beck of Euharlee, has obtained an attorney and is not talking to investigators.

The news outlet also reports Kaylee was found "severely injured" by emergency crews when they arrived on the scene and that Naples had four different protective orders filed against him by two different women. His former wife, according to 11 Alive, also sought protective custody for their six-month old child after alleging Naples mistreated the infant.

Beck, 22, reportedly told deputies she woke up to get a glass of water and discovered her child unresponsive at the bottom of the basement stairs. Lt. Baker said the mother told investigators "they discovered the door to basement ajar" before finding Kaylee.

The child was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and then flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. She was placed on life support at Scottish Rite, but later passed away on Tuesday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation completed an autopsy on Kaylee on Wednesday, but Cherokee County Coroner Earl Darby said results are "pending," as he's waiting on other test results to return before releasing the findings.
