Labor Day Weekend Brings 18 BUIs, Three Drownings on Georgia Lakes

The Department of Natural Resources has released statistics about deaths and injuries on Georgia waters over Labor Day weekend.

Three people died in Georgia lakes and rivers over the Labor Day weekend, including one drowning on Allatoona Lake.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, two of the three deaths are reported as boating-related incidents.

On Allatoona Lake, a 23-year-old Atlanta man drowned after jumping off a boat near the Red Top Mountain State Park swim beach in Bartow County on Sunday.

A 45-year-old Atlanta man drowned on Sunday afternoon at Amicalola Creek near Dawsonville, and a 61-year-old Augusta man drowned on the Savannah River after a kayaking accident.

Across the state, the Department of Natural Resources reported 18 boating under the influence incidents, six boating incidents, one incident-related injury and two incident-related fatalities.
