Late Cherokee Firefighter Will Be Named To Public Safety Memorial

The name of former Cherokee firefighter Douglas Clark Waters, Jr. will be placed on the Georgia Public Safety Memorial Wall in a ceremony in September.

Former Cherokee County firefighter Douglas Clark Waters, Jr., who passed away in 2003, has been approved for his name to be placed on the Georgia Public Safety Memorial Wall, according to a press release from Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

The wall is located at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.

Waters was a firefighter and EMT as well as a member of the Cherokee County Rescue Dive Team prior to his death. He was also a member of the Cherokee County Firefighters Association and was a sergeant with Cherokee County since Jan. 4, 1999.  Waters also served on the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department and served as a senior structural fire instructor with the Georgia Fire Academy.  

Waters had numerous other accomplishments, including being a National Professional Board of Qualifications fire instructor III and a member of the prestigious Georgia Smoke Divers Association. He was also a high level rope rescue trainer, a certified public safety diver and an evaluator for the Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council and the National Professional Board of Qualifications Certification Program.

Waters also served in the United States Marine Corps.

“Waters was a dedicated member of Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and was an inspiration and great example to others in the fire profession," said Cherokee County Assistant Fire Chief Eddie Robinson. 

The 2014 Georgia Firefighter Memorial Service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center Auditorium. The auditorium is located at 1,000 Indian Springs Drive in Forsyth.
