Littering Leads to Forgery

Two men were arrested and charged with forgery in the second degree.

A Norcross man was arrested and charged with littering after he threw a cigarette out of his window on Highway 92 March 3.

Driver Brian Byrd, 24, of Norcross and passenger Jamel Williams, 21, of Durham, N.C., were caught with fake driver’s licenses and fraudulent checks in a vehicle search after they said they did not have identification, said spokeswoman Brittany Duncan.

“At this time, Byrd provided the officer with the name of Christopher Irirary,” Duncan said. “Further investigation revealed that Byrd had, in his possession, a fake North Carolina identification with his picture, but with the name of Kerk Martinez.”

Both Byrd and Williams’ checkbooks were found with the name Kerk Martinez on the checks, Duncan said, but with different account numbers.

In the search, more fraudulent checks for large amounts of money with Williams’ name and checks with the name of Steven Wright were found. An Indiana driver’s license with the name Steven Wright and Byrd’s picture was also found, Duncan said. A camera, laptop, router, telephones and other electronic items were discovered along with the receipts confirming their purchase with the fake checks.
