Motorcycle Ride Will Benefit Woodstock Baby Suffering From Rare Bone Disease

Woodstock public safety officials are sponsoring a motorcycle ride to benefit the son of a Neese Towing employee battling a rare congenital disease.

Woodstock public safety officials are rallying around the family of a man who has given back to the community.

The Woodstock Fire and Police Department is sponsoring a charity motorcycle April 6. The ride will start at Burger Inn in Woodstock and head north to Bad Moon Rising Cycle Shop in Jasper.

The riders will then come back to Cherokee County and stop at Uncle Peppers Pizza Kitchen in Ball Ground and later make their way to Danny's Rock & Roll at 5735 Bells Ferry Road.

The ride will benefit Easton Elrod, the 10-week-old son of Michael and Brianna Elrod of Woodstock who suffers from a rare congenital defect called Brittle Bone Disease.

Michael Elrod, who has been a contract work driver with Neese Towing for the last 12 years, has handled towing for local law enforcement agencies in the area and has also provided complimentary vehicle towing for intoxicated residents who participates in the Woodstock Police Department's Operation Safe Ride initiative.

"By all accounts, he is a stand up guy – the kind who would literally give you the shirt off his back if it would help," said Woodstock Police Spokesperson Brittany Duncan.

Brittle Bone Disease, whose formal name is Ontogenesis Imperfecta, is caused by a defect that hinders the body's production of collagen, thus causing extremely fragile bones that leads to fractures.

Duncan said the medical costs "have devastated the family," as Baby Easton and his family have to take regular trips to a clinic in Nebraska that specializes in the treatment of the condition.

An account, Benefit Account for Easton Elrod, has been set up at Regions Bank for those who can't participate in the ride.

A Facebook page has been created, Easton's Angels, by the family to document their journey.
