The search for the man in Lake Allatoona who went missing Friday afternoon has turned passive.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will now only search by boat for the 28-year-old black male who jumped off a boat and never resurfaced, said Cherokee County Training Chief Eddie Robinson.

Forsyth County's Water Rescue Team joined Cherokee County officials Sunday morning to continue the search after two failed days.

“Dive team members from Cherokee County continued the search and recovery operation, while Forsyth County helped with sonar,” said Tim Cavender, spokesman for the Cherokee County Fire and EMS. The search was completed 9:20 p.m. Sunday.

Cherokee County Fire and EMS received a call from an individual at 7:15 p.m. Friday after a man jumped into the water but could not be found, Cavender said. The male was on an outing with his employer near .

Searchers were on the water until approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday, but Cavender said the dark makes searching difficult. He said the teams have succeeded in past searches if not the following day, then a couple days after incidents.

The Cherokee County dive team began at 8 a.m. Saturday to continue the search with the help of the county Fire and Emergency Services, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Natural Resources, but were unsuccessful.
