Suspect Injures Self While En Route To Jail

The suspect began hitting his head on the divider inside a sheriff's office vehicle while being transported to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.

A suspect wanted on an outstanding warrant caused a slight delay in his transportation to jail when he began to inflict injuries upon himself, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said.

Arnold Mill Road was briefly shut down in front of River Ridge High School late Wednesday morning in Woodstock after the suspect, Matthew Light, 26, began to inflict injuries onto himself inside a sheriff's office vehicle, said Spokesman Lt. Jay Baker.

Light, a registered sex offender, was wanted on charges he failed to register in the state of Ohio. Thee suspect, who resides in the Hideaway Village Mobile Home Park off Arnold Mill Road, was arrested by deputies this morning on those charges.

While en route to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, Light allegedly "started hitting his head against the divider between the front and back seats," Lt. Jay Baker said.

Light also kicked the doors and windows of the vehicle he was riding in.

The suspect received an injury to his head and was transported to an area hospital.

Arnold Mill Road reopened around noon Wednesday.
