Suspects Indicted for Burglarizing Woodstock Home

Both men are accused of burglarizing a home in the Dockside Downs subdivision in July 2013.

Two Acworth men have been indicted for allegedly burglarizing a home off Bells Ferry Road in Woodstock.

A Cherokee County grand jury this month indicted Robert Jason Bennett and Cardell Deon Richardson each with one count of burglary in the first degree after they allegedly broke into a home in the Dockside Downs subdivision.

Bennett was also indicted on two counts of obstruction of an officer and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Both men were apprehended in July by deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office after a neighbor called 911 and told dispatchers she noticed a suspicious vehicle park in the driveway of the home on Lake Point Drive.

The neighbor apparently watched the suspects enter the home, and was able to give dispatchers a description of the suspects, the tag number of their vehicle and what direction they were going when they left the home.

Deputies then responded to the call, and spotted the vehicle traveling northbound on Bells Ferry Road near Hobgood Park.

A sheriff's deputy pulled over the vehicle on Countryside Lane and Bennett, who was the passenger, allegedly took a backpack from the car and ran on foot from the scene.

The deputy took off after Bennett, who was later captured in a neighborhood off Wyngate Parkway.

Meantime, Richardson allegedly drove away from the traffic stop and proceeded to head north on Bells Ferry Road.

Sheriff's deputies later spotted the vehicle near Wooten Drive and were able to stop the vehicle in the parking lot of Hopewell Baptist Church on Ridge Road. Richardson was also taken into custody.
