Tree Branch Strikes Cherokee Man in Head

The man was found unresponsive and is in critical condition at Atlanta Medical Center

A Cherokee County man is in critical condition after a branch from a tree hit him in the head Wednesday afternoon.

The man, 29, was working with a tree service company on Free Home Road between Bill Bagwell Drive and Hicks Road in the Free Home community when a branch fell on the back of his head, said Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services Spokesman Tim Cavender.

Cavender said the incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, and first responders found the man unresponsive when they arrived onto the scene.

"The branch was approximately 3 foot in length and was about 8 to 10 inches in diameter," he added.

Cavender said the man suffered "severe head trauma" and had to be airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center where he is in critical condition.
