Turkey Slams Into Windshield on I-575

A vehicle hit one of three turkeys on the northbound side of the interstate, causing the bird to crash into the windshield of a Cadillac Escalade.

A Covington man got an interesting surprise while traveling in Cherokee County Thursday afternoon.

A turkey slammed into the windshield of an SUV Thursday afternoon along Interstate 575, according to a press release from Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

The agency, along with Woodstock Fire and Rescue, responded to the call shortly before 2:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the interstate near the Sixes Road exit ramp in Holly Springs.

The driver of the black Cadillac Escalade, Kelly Teague of Covington, told authorities he saw three turkeys crossing the interstate "when a vehicle to the right of him hit the middle turkey, causing it to land on his front windshield." 

Teague, had a few cuts and scratches to his face, but did not appear to suffer any substantial injuries.

Teague’s wife was in the front passenger seat and a male relative was in the back seat when the accident happened, but they were not injured.  

The turkey was still alive when emergency crews arrived on scene and firefighters helped move the turkey away from the highway and back to safety.
