Waleska Woman Dies, Child Suffers Minor Injuries in Wreck

Cortney Jade King was traveling with her five-year-old niece Saturday afternoon when her car ran off the road and hit several trees.

A one-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Waleska woman early Saturday afternoon, but spared the life of a child passenger.

The Georgia State Patrol responded to a single car crash around 1:35 p.m. on Highway 108/Fincher Road near Ammons Road east of Waleska where a 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle had run off the road and hit several trees.

GSP Spokesperson Gordy Wright said the driver, identified as 24-year-old Cortney Jade King, was traveling eastbound when her vehicle ran off the road.

Alexis King, King's five-year-old niece, was properly restrained in a booster seat, and was transported to Northside-Hospital Cherokee where she was treated for cuts to her hands and arms.

Wright said alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the accident and it's undetermined what caused King to veer off the roadway.
