ORIGINAL STORY

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a single-vehicle accident that took the life of Ball Ground woman Sunday evening.

At around 8:30 p.m., a Pontiac Firebird was traveling northbound on Highway 5 when the driver, Jasper resident Ryan Patrick Quinton, 27, told authorities he tried to avoid hitting a dog in the roadway when he lost control of the vehicle, said Georgia State Patrol spokesperson Franka Young.

The car traveled off the road, overturned and ejected Quinton's passenger, Ball Ground resident Kali Shay Dobson, 25, before it came to rest with the woman trapped under the vehicle.

Dobson died at the scene of the accident while Quinton was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee to be treated for his injuries.

The newlywed couple were leaving their wedding party at The Wheeler House when the fatal accident took place, an employee at the venue confirmed.

While the investigation is not complete, Young noted blood was drawn from Quinton to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor in the fatal wreck.
