Woodstock Accepting Citizens' Public Safety Academy Applications

The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Aug. 5 and classes will begin on Thursday, Aug. 7.

The Woodstock Police Department is now accepting applications for the fall 2014 Citizens’ Public Safety Academy, which is scheduled to start Thursday, Aug. 7.

The academy s a series of educational classes designed to enhance a resident's understanding of various aspects within the police and fire profession.

The program is intended to strengthen the relationship between the citizens and the Woodstock Police and Fire Departments, as well as spotlight the responsibilities of public safety personnel and the inherent risks associated with the professions. 

Some of the classes offered during this series are: domestic violence response, criminal investigation procedures, crime prevention, SWAT demonstrations, fire safety and fire prevention. 

The class will also take tours of Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, Cherokee County E-911 Center and Woodstock Fire Department.

The Citizens’ Public Safety Academy will be held at Chambers at City Center at 8534 Main Street in Woodstock every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Aug. 7 through Oct. 23. 

Anyone who lives, works or has an expressed interest in the city may apply for the Citizens’ Public Safety Academy. Applicants are required to be at least 19 years of age and submit to a background investigation prior to acceptance in the program.

Once accepted, positions are awarded on a first come, first serve basis. 

Citizens’ Public Safety Academy applications are available at the Woodstock Police Department, located at 12453 Highway 92 in Woodstock or by the academy's website.
