Woodstock Man Drowns Off Gulf Coast

A Woodstock man drowned late Sunday morning in the Gulf of Mexico, according to local media reports.

The Star newspaper reports Danny Dee Dickens of Woodstock drowned while swimming in the waters off the Gulf County, Florida coast.

Gulf County Sheriff Joe Nugent said Tuesday Morning the 48-year-old man was swimming in the waters off Higgins Street in Indian Pass and his wife suddenly lost sight of him from the beach.

Nugent said the wife saw her husband floating in the water and flagged down a resident who helped pull the man from the water. 

First responders from the South Gulf County Fire Department performed CPR on Dickens, but man was pronounced dead after roughly 40 minutes of resuscitation efforts.

Nugent, who said he "assumed" Dickens was on vacation in the area with his family, said no drugs or alcohol were involved in Dickens' drowning.
