Woodstock Soldier Laid to Rest in Washington

Sgt. Joshua Strickland was laid to rest last Saturday at the Tahoma National Cemetery.

Friends and family on Thursday said goodbye to a Woodstock soldier who was killed last month in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Joshua Strickland was honored at a memorial service at the North Fort Chapel at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state, according to The Olympian.
Funeral services were held on Saturday Oct. 5 and he was buried at the Tahoma National Cemetery

Strickland, who was was assigned to Group Support Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, worked as a mechanic supporting the Green Berets since 2008 after completing his education at Etowah High School.

He and two other soldiers were killed on Sept. 21 when enemy forces attacked his unit while they were performing range training.

According to his obituary on Yahn & Son's website, Strickland is survived by wife Heather; son Landon; daughters Maddison and Victoria; brothers Andrew, Caleb and Garrett; sister Delaynie; and parents, Jim and Beth Funk.
