Cherokee Could Slash Impact Fees for Roofing Company

The county commission on Tuesday is set to waive 50 percent of the impact fees for Inalfa Roof Systems, which plans to open a plant next year in Cherokee County.

A vehicle roofing company slated to open a facility in the Cherokee 75 Corporate Park could have its impact fee obligation reduced.

The Cherokee County Commission during its meeting tonight will vote on whether to cut by 50 percent the amount of impact fees Inalfa Roof Systems will put into county coffers.

The meeting starts tonight at 6 p.m., but is preceded by a 3 p.m. work session. Both meetings will be held at the Cherokee County administrative building on Bluffs Parkway in Canton.

The county's impact fee schedule calls for the vehicle roofing company to contribute $95,957.52, based upon its proposed 165,444 square foot facility.

Rooker & Associates, the company working with the Cherokee Office of Economic Development to develop the new corporate park, is making the waiver request, which would reduce the amount to $47,978.76.

The request has the support of the CoED and the county's Impact Fee Appeals Board.

Inalfa Roof Systems, a global supplier of vehicle roofing systems, will open a manufacturing plant in the Cherokee 75 Corporate Park development, located on Highway 92 about two miles east of Interstate 75.

The company's move will be a $17.1 million investment and provide an additional 300 jobs to the county.

Commissioners will also hold a public hearing on its proposed fiscal year 2014 budget, which is proposed at $167.3 million. That's a 10 percent drop from the current budget of $187.3 million.

The budget reduction is driven by the county cutting capital project spending and a lower debt service.
