Cherokee Firefighters, Sheriff's Deputies To Run For Children

The annual Guns & Hoses 5K and 1-mile fun run will be held next month.

Public safety officials on the first line of defense will come together to raise money for abused and neglected Cherokee County children.

Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency will once again join forces with the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for the Guns & Hoses 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 16.

The race will be held at Hobgood Park in Towne Lake. Runners can choose which team — Guns for the sheriff's department or Hoses for the fire department — and the $5 of the total registration fee will be donated to a local charity.

The event this year will benefit CASA Cherokee. Court Appointed Special Advocates are volunteers appointed by judges to oversee the welfare of neglected and abused children.

Registration is $25 before Feb. 1 and rises to $30 after that up to race day. Participants can register online before Feb. 10 on CRPA's website.

Once there, click on "browse activities and register online" to locate Guns & Hoses 5K.

Starting Monday Feb. 11, registration will only be accepted in person at CRPA's offices in Woodstock.

Race-day registration starts at 7 a.m. at the pavilion in the park's Adult Softball Complex.

The fun run will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the 5k will start at 8 a.m.

For more information about the race, call Kate Borden at (770) 924-7768 or kborden@cherokeega.com or check out the event blog
