Cherokee Intersection Named After Woman Who Died in Wreck
Cherokee County will also move forward with creating a three-way stop at the Tiffany Nicole Ribbons Intersection at Woodstock Road and Victory Drive.
The intersection where a woman was fatally wounded in a car accident will be named in her memory.
The Cherokee County Commission on Tuesday unanimously voted to name the intersection of Woodstock Road at Victory Drive the Tiffany Nicole Robbins Intersection in honor of the woman who passed away in January from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident.
Commissioners also voted to move forward with installing three-way stop signs at the intersection, which was one of the recommendations made by Kimley-Horn and Associates, the company the county hired to study the area.
The work would include:
- installing STOP control on both approaches of Woodstock Road, including STOP signs and painted STOP bars.
- Reducing the radius of the curve on the southeastern corner with paint striping.
- Installing advanced STOP ahead warning signs on all approaches to the intersection.
- Restriping and refurbishing pavement markings on Woodstock Road and Victory Drive and installing overhead street lighting for intersection, both of which have already been done.
As far as long range planning, the firm recommends the county consider installing a roundabout at the intersection located in unincorporated Acworth.
On Jan. 11, Robbins, 26, who also had her three-year-old daughter Malaya restrained in the backseat of her vehicle, was turning onto Woodstock Road from Victory Drive when her Honda Accord pulled into the path of a truck traveling northbound on Woodstock Road.
The woman and her three-year-old child were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment. Robbins underwent an emergency c-section at the hospital, but the baby did not survive. Robbins later died of internal injuries.
Robbins' aunt Judy Beale has been campaigning for the last several months to convince the county to make the intersection safer for motorists.
Beale on Wednesday thanked District 4 commissioner Jason Nelms for helping her lead the fight in transforming the intersection into a three-way stop.
"While we miss Tiffany and Ariella (Robbins' unborn child) terribly, we hope that the new three-way intersection will save lives so that no other family or families have to go thru the pain and suffering that our families have suffered," Beale wrote on her Facebook page.
Beale added her niece was an only child, and her parents "weep for her everyday." Robbins also left behind a husband and two-year-old daughter "who miss her so darn much, too."
"I hope this message brings a little joy though knowing our cries were heard loud and clear," she added.
