Cherokee Set To Approve FY 2014 Budget

The proposed fiscal year 2014 budget is set at $167.8 million, a 10 percent reduction from the current budget.

The Cherokee County Commission is set to approve its fiscal year 2014 budget during its meeting tonight.

The commission's meeting starts at 6 p.m., which will be preceded by a work session starting at 3 p.m. Both will be held at the Cherokee County Administrative Building in Canton.

The county Board of Commissioners today will review its proposed budget for fiscal year 2014, which is proposed at $167.9 million. That's a 10 percent drop from the current budget of $187.3 million.

The fiscal year will go into effect Oct. 1 and will end on Sept. 30, 2014.

The budget reduction is driven by the county cutting capital project spending and a lower debt service.

The proposed balanced budget is based upon a tax rate of 9.947. The average home in Cherokee County is worth around $163,500, and that homeowner should expect to pay around $621 in county property taxes.
