Former Holly Springs Councilwoman To Run For Cherokee Commission Chair

Jacqueline Archer said she's "ready to get to work" and return to elected office.

Former Holly Springs City Councilwoman Jacqueline Archer has declared her candidacy to run for the Cherokee County Commission chairperson.

Archer plans to qualify as a Republican and run for the seat.

Archer, who said she's ready to "get to work," added she "looks forward to the opportunity to serve the residents of Cherokee County."

She noted she appreciates the support and encouragement of residents who are already supporting her.

The seat is currently held by incumbent Buzz Ahrens, who has not indicated any plans to run for re-election.

Archer was elected to the Holly Springs City Council in 2001 and served for nearly a decade. She's a current member of the Cherokee County Development Authority, the constitutional authority tasked with bringing new and supporting current businesses in Cherokee County.

She was elected treasurer of the Republican Women of Cherokee County and is also an active member of the Cherokee County Republican Party

Last year, Archer began championing for the awareness of lung cancer and worked to designate funds to be used for detection, patient advocacy, treatment and educating the public on the disease.

Archer, who never smoked, is a stage 3 lung cancer survivor and lobbied the Georgia General Assembly to establish the Lung Cancer Awareness license plate Georgia residents can purchase to support the Joan Gaeta Lung Cancer Foundation. 

Archer added one of her many desires is for "Cherokee County to flourish in a responsible manner, thereby creating jobs inside the county in an effort to provide a live, work, and play community, which can ultimately improve the quality of life for those who live in Cherokee County."

"Serving the residents of Cherokee County in the various past and current roles has been and remains an honor and a privilege that I do not take for granted," she said. "I look forward to the opportunity to continue and expand my work on behalf of so many who call Cherokee County their home."

A licensed Realtor for 20 years, Archer also serves on the Cherokee County Advisory Board for MUST Ministries, and is a vice president for advocacy for The Joan Gaeta Lung Cancer Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors for the Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation and a member of the Advisory Board for TeamDraft

She attended Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. Archer and her husband live in northern Cherokee County and have three adult children. The Archers are active members of New Life Church in Canton.
