Hennessy Honda Can Use Car Wash For Inventory Storage

The Woodstock City Council voted to approve the company's request to use two acres next to its property to store overflow inventory.

The Woodstock City Council has approved a request for Hennessy Honda to use the former Woodstock Car Wash property for inventory storage, putting another twist in a story three years in the making.

The council unanimously approved the company's request to use the 2 acres of land for a storage lot limited to overflow inventory. Council member Randy Brewer was not present.

Hennessy Honda has been involved in a three-year battle with resident who live in the Kingsridge Estates neighborhood located behind the facility.

To expand its inventory storage capacity, Hennessy in 2010 pursued purchasing three residential lots that sat directly behind its facility.

The company in 2010 asked the city to annex and rezone those three parcels to general commercial so they could use the land for the aforementioned purposes.

The council approved the request, but neighbors filed suit to stop the company from moving forward with its intentions.

The company said they pursued acquiring the residential lot to meet minimum parking requirement standards set forth by American Honda.

Ana Anthuis, who lives in the neighborhood behind the dealership, said Monday's decision was appropriate.

"It’s a step in the right direction to our goal," she said. "Our goal is to remain 100 percent residential."

Anthuis added she didn't know what will happen with the three residential lots now, and Hennessy Honda won't say if they plan to move forward with incorporating the three parcels into their development.

"We do not want part of it being part commercial and part residential," she added, referring to her neighborhood.
