Qualifying Dates Set for State Senate Seat

Special election will fill seat left vacant by Barry Loudermilk.

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp has announced that qualifying dates are next week for the special election on Nov. 5 set to fill the vacancy in State Senate District 14.

The spot is left empty by Barry Loudermilk, who plans to run for Congress. Canton's Dwight Pullen announced plans last week to run for the seat.

Qualifying on Monday, Sept. 16, runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Candidates will qualify in the Elections Division of the Office of the Secretary of State, 802 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, SE, Atlanta 30334. The qualifying fee is $400.

Citizens must be registered to vote by Monday, Oct. 7, to participate in the Nov. 5 election. Voter registration forms can be obtained at any county registrar’s office or from the Secretary of State’s website at sos.ga.gov/elections.
