Qualifying Ends in Woodstock

Longtime Ward 1 Councilman Randy Brewer will not seek re-election and Mayor Donnie Henriques has no opposition.

All three Woodstock City Council seats up for re-election will be contested in the Nov. 5 municipal election.

Qualifying ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday for the city's election and Wards 1, 3 and 5 all have at least two people vying to become the newest members of the council.

Ward 1 candidates John Szczesniak, a member of the Woodstock Planning Commission, and D. Warren Johnson will face off. Longtime Ward 1 Councilman Randy Brewer did not qualify to seek re-election.

Ward 3 incumbent Bob Mueller will face off against Judy Davila, another member of the planning commission, and Ward 5 incumbent Bud Leonard will face a challenge from resident Susan Jones. Leonard defeated Jones for the Ward 5 seat back in 2005.

Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques faces no opposition in the fall election in his bid for a third term.

The deadline for residents to register for the city election is Oct. 7.

City voters will cast their ballots on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 5 and a run-off has been tentatively scheduled for Tuesday Dec. 3.
