State Rep. Calvin Hill Dies After Leukemia Battle

The politician was diagnosed with the disease this summer.

State Rep. Calvin Hill (R-Hickory Flat) passed away on Wednesday after suffering from leukemia, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Hill was 66. In September friends of the Hickory Flat resident began an online drive to help him find a bone marrow donor

Hill was elected in 2002 and diagnosed with the disease this summer.

Hill got his start in politics by serving as mayor of Ball Ground before tackling state politics, according to his website.

Along with serving as a founding member of Cherokee Bank's board of directors, Hill has also been served on the boards of the YMCA, March of Dimes, United Way, The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and the Anna Crawford Children’s Center. He also was a member of the Rotary Club of Canton.
