Street Name Change Tops Woodstock Agenda

The Woodstock City Council will review a request from a duplex owner to rename Poor Street to Clay Street.

A request to change the name of a street will be heard tonight by the Woodstock City Council.

The council will review the request to rename Poor Street to Clay Street during its meeting tonight, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Chambers at City Center.

Property owners of a duplex at 104 Poor Street submitted the request to name the street "in an effort to increase the desirability of the area," according to the city documents.

The duplex is the only property given an address on the street. Poor Street is located off Rusk Street, and sits to the west of Rope Mill Road. It intersects with Rusk Street to the south and with Clay Street to the west.

The council will also consider a request to revert the zoning of 5.78 acres to the east of Putnam Ford Road and south of Eagle Drive from SL-C (senior living community) to general commercial. The property was originally zoned general commercial in Cherokee County before it was annexed and rezoned to SL-C in October 2007.
