Three Candidates Qualify for Elections

Woodstock candidates have till 5 p.m. Wednesday to qualify for the three City Council positions open for the Nov. 8 elections.

Woodstock voters will have three local positions to look over in the upcoming November elections.

Qualifying began at 8:30 this morning with Wards 2, 4 and 6 up for grabs. 

Incumbents Chris Casdia, Ward 2; Tracy Collins, Ward 4; and Tessa Basford, Ward 6 are the only members to qualify the first day with no challengers, according to City Clerk Rhonda Pezzello.

Casdia has served on the council since 2006 when he was sworn in to fill the unexpired term of former Council Member William G. Long. He was re-elected in 2007.

Collins, a reserve police officer for 14 years, has served on the council since 2007.

As newest member to the group, Basford joined in September 2010 filling the unexpired term of former Council Member Steve Faris.

Qualifying fees are $270 for a City Council seat, and anyone wanting to be put on the Nov. 8 ballot will have until 5 p.m. Wednesday to qualify at the City Hall Annex at 12453 Hwy. 92.

Anyone wishing to be a candidate must reside within his or her ward and must have resided in that area for at least 12 months prior to the time of election. Candidates much be a registered voter as well as meet the City of Woodstock's requirements. Candidates must also be at least 21 years old.
