Truck Passing Lanes Open on Highway 20

After three years and $11 million, over four miles of truck passing lanes have been built on the Cherokee County highway.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) has good news for motorists who use Highway 20 in Cherokee County.

The department said on Wednesday the 4.3 miles of truck passing lanes, which extend from west of Union Hill Road to east of Greenwood Court between Macedonia and Free Home, are now complete after three years of construction.

The project costs $11,222,641, and was initially set to be complete by July 2013.

"We are glad to complete these passing lanes on schedule and give the improved road back to the traveling public in Cherokee County," said Dewayne Comer, district engineer at the Georgia DOT in a news release. "Although some minor work remains to be done, construction is complete as far as the traveling public is concerned."
