Woodstock Council To Consider Trail Agreement

The Woodstock City Council will consider a maintenance agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation for a portion of the city's trail system during its meeting on Monday.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Chambers at City Center in downtown Woodstock.

Two of the trails will pass under Interstate 575, which falls under GDOT's right-of-way. One trail, the Towne Lake Pass trail, will cross under the interstate at the Towne Lake Parkway interchange and will connect Towne Lake to the downtown area. The second trail system is a portion of the Taylor Randahl mountain bike trails at Olde Rope Mill Park that will cross under the interstate just north of Little River. 

GDOT has already approved permits requested by the city for the encroachments and now the state is requesting a maintenance agreement for the areas where the trails encroach onto the right-of-way.

The trail network is being funded by a portion of the $90 million parks bond Cherokee County voters approved in 2008. City Manager Jeff Moon said the trails are scheduled to go out for bid by the county government later this month.
