Woodstock Develops New Magazine

The first issue of Woodstock Scene Magazine is expected to be distributed in March.

A new magazine expected to launch here next month is geared toward giving current and prospective residents information about what’s going on in Woodstock.

“(It will be) something that has a lot of really great info for our residents or people who are thinking of moving here or relocating a business here,” said Kyle Bennett, assistant director of tourism for the Downtown Development Authority. “Woodstock has been such a dynamic place. Things change so quickly here (that) we always struggle with how to get the info out there. This is a way we can get that info out, kind of getting our message out to the city this way.”

Woodstock Scene Magazine will be a quality of life magazine, and will include information on events and city departments, as well as articles about local businesses, Bennett said. The DDA along with Main Street Woodstock are tasked with providing content for the publication, which will be produced by Bunker Designs. Ad sales are expected to pay for production.

“We provide the content,” Bennett said. “We do the articles, and tell them what we want to be in the magazine. They go and sell the ads, and when the product’s finished, they give the magazines to us to distribute.”

Having this magazine will give the two organizations the ability to make the call as to what information goes out about Woodstock.

“We’re not relying on someone’s magazine to write a great article about all the downtown restaurants,” Bennett said. “We get to decide. It allows us a lot of flexibility about getting the message we want to get out to the public.”

The first issue is expected to be out in March, just in time to be distributed at a three-day conference Woodstock is hosting for Main Street organizations throughout Georgia. The publication will be printed once a year. It will be mailed to all residents and businesses with Woodstock addresses, and will also be distributed to those stopping by or calling to express interest in moving to the area.
