Woodstock: July 4th Festivities "Will Go On" With Light Rain

The city plans to hold its events if there's only light rain, but noted a downpour could mean cancellation of its parade and fireworks.

The city of Woodstock is holding out hope that the predicted heavy downpours on Thursday won't disrupt their annual July 4th celebration

Woodstock still plans to carry out its events, and on Tuesday released a statement, stating the parade and other planned events "will go on" if there's a "light rain."

"If we are getting a downpour or have inclement or dangerous weather, we may have to cancel the parade and festival and make a call on the fireworks later that evening in the hopes it will clear up for the show," the statement read.

City Manager Jeff Moon said fireworks could be made up on Friday night if they are forced to cancel.

"There will be no makeup for the parade and Freedom Fest if those events are cancelled," he added.

The annual parade is set to start at 10 a.m. and its participants will travel along Main Street and Rope Mill Road from Highway 92 to Woodstock Elementary School. Woodstock staff will hand out trophies for the Best Holiday Float and the Most Original Float.

After the parade, Freedom Fest at the Park at City Center will kick off at 11 a.m. and will feature food, arts & crafts, gumball guess, cake walk, a free concert with Steve Phillips & Midnight Express, kids activities and more.

Fireworks are planned to start at sunset at the Woodstock Square Shopping Center on Woodstock Square Avenue at Highway 92.
