Woodstock Trolley Back Online

After announcing on Wednesday that it would have to halts its temporary trolley service, the Woodstock Downtown Development Authority has confirmed the vehicle's engine problems have been resolved.  

Kyle Bennett, assistant director of tourism and visitor center operations, noted the trolley's "minor" issue was fixed by Cherokee County mechanics earlier today.

The DDA is leasing the vehicle from the county for the month of December to test its popularity. If the trolley is deemed popular, the DDA would consider purchasing the vehicle from the county and use it to shuttle people from the downtown area to the Ridgewalk area. 

Mechanics from the county noted they believed water seeped into the trolley's fuel tank, creating condensation that contributed to the engine stalling and sputtering.

He noted the mechanic believe the engine problems were due to the fact that the trolley had been sitting in storage for a length of time. 

"We are very happy it turned out to be such a minor issue and that we will be able to resume the trolley service as scheduled," he said.

The trolley will resume service during the next two weekends, from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. on Fridays and 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays. The trolley had proven to be popular as it garnered between 600 and 700 riders so far.

The DDA last month entered into a lease agreement with Cherokee County, which owns the trolley, to test its popularity during the month of December.

The county took ownership of the trolley when the city of Canton discontinued its transit services several years and county leaders have tried to sell the trolley.
