Chapman's Closure Brings Changes to Etowah Zone School Start, End Times

The changes will also help the Cherokee County School District reduce transportation costs.

The Cherokee County School District will alter the school times for the Etowah Innovation Zone.

When Chapman Intermediate School closes at the end of the current school year, the schools in the Etowah Zone — Bascomb Elementary, Boston Elementary, Clark Creek Elementary STEM Academy, Oak Grove Elementary, E.T. Booth Middle and Etowah High School — will have altered start and closing times to "further reduce transportation costs."

The elementary schools in the feeder zone will start at 7:45 a.m. while Etowah High School will start at 8:15 a.m. and Booth's classes will begin at 8:45 a.m.

The school end times for Boston, Bascomb, Clark Creek and Oak Grove will be 2:15 p.m., while Booth will dismiss at 3:45 p.m. and Etowah will dismiss at 3:15 p.m.

"These times and the attached schedule for all CCSD schools does not reflect additional minutes of instruction that may be required if furlough days are approved for the 2013-14 school year," the district notes. "If furlough days are approved and additional minutes are required, a revised school start and end times schedule will be created and posted."

The district also notes that with the closure of Chapman, ACE Academy in Holly Springs will be able to eliminate its two-tiered start and end times. The school will start classes at 8:38 a.m. and end session at 3 p.m.
