Chatt Tech Opens Doors to a New School Year

More than 12,400 students were registered for classes on the first day—in line with last year's enrollment numbers. The college's Marietta and North Metro campuses remain the top two options for students.

A new semester and school year started Friday at Chattahoochee Technical College with approximately 3,900 new students on the rolls. Georgia’s largest technical college began classes on August 17 at its eight campuses that span six counties in Northwest Georgia, including Northeast Cobb.

“This is always an exciting time of year,” said Chattahoochee Technical College President Ron Newcomb. “We have new programs beginning and new students joining us for the first time. We also welcome back students who are finishing their degrees, diplomas and certificates this year and are eager to help them start or continue their careers.”

More than 12,400 students were registered for classes on the first day—in line with last year’s enrollment numbers. The college’s Marietta and North Metro campuses remain the top two options for students with 69 percent of students taking at least one class at one of the two campuses.

Online classes also continue to grow in popularity with 37 percent of students taking at least one online class. Almost 1,400 students are exclusively registered for online classes this term.

New programs in Clinical Laboratory Technology, Environmental Technology, Building and Facilities Maintenance Technology and Logistics and Supply Chain Management debuted at the college’s Canton, Marietta and North Metro campuses. The new programs bring the college’s total number of certificate, diploma and associate degree level offerings to more than 70.

Chattahoochee Technical College students taking classes on the North Metro Campus will also notice something new this fall. Gone is the tower that was once a central sight at the former North Metro Technical College, as well as the theater style auditorium in the same building. Both have been replaced by a new entrance to the college’s A building, which will now house a student center area and better access to the college’s student affairs area, library and student success center for free tutoring.

“This is a much more practical use of the space,” explained Chattahoochee Technical College Vice President of Facilities David Simmons. “The area will provide students an area where they can study or work on group projects, as well as a space to just relax between classes and catch up on e-mails and reading assignments.”
