Cherokee Schools Psychologist Elected To State Board

Lead Psychologist Cathy McKenzie has been elected president-elect of the Georgia Association of School Psychologists

A Cherokee County School District psychologists will soon take her skills to the state level. 

Lead Psychologist Cathy McKenzie has been tapped to serve as president-elect of the Georgia Association of School Psychologists

“This talented individual is committed to our profession which specializes in psychology and education,” Association President Karen B. Hodges said of McKenzie.  “Your school psychologists apply the principles of learning and motivation to the challenges of schooling and provide a wide range of services to students, parents, teachers and administrators in your school system. By staying abreast of the latest educational initiatives, both on the state and national level, your school psychologists are an invaluable asset to your school system.”

McKenzie has previously served on the board in various positions. 

McKenzie also recently given with the 2012-13 Debbie Rondem Award for Outstanding Leadership presented by the Student Support Team Association of Georgia

She was chosen as one who best personifies extraordinary leadership and also serves as a positive role model and inspiration to others.

McKenzie has been an integral part of the school district's development of its Response To Intervention (RTI) procedures, as well as its Student Support Team (SST) program.

McKenzie was hired with the school district in July 2007 as a school psychologist and has served in her current role since July 2008. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and an education specialist degree, both from the University of Georgia.
