Groups Calls for Rogers to Resign

Parents who rallied in Hickory Flat earlier this year have asked the Senate Majority Leader to step down.

(P.A.N.T.S.), a local parent group, called on Georgia Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) to resign, according to a Thursday report on WSB-TV.

Last week, the  over his connections to a business that handicapped sports games for gamblers in the 1990s.

I hardly agree with Chip on any policy points but this really is a lot of overblown fuss about nothing. He's not a bookie, he's not running gaming out of his outhouse, it's a previous job - and frankly, something that should be legal in all 50 states but that's another discussion. If you're going to vote him out, at least do it on the basis of some of his rotten policies.

I find it funny that this group is NOW calling on his resignation on something he may or may not have had a connection with in the 1990s. Why now?
PANTS June 08, 2012 at 05:14 PM
Went to Cherokee P.A.N.T.S website to find out the names of the people leading the organization. Only names on their site are the legislators they oppose. At least the leader of the Christian Group had courage to identify their leader by name. Surprised a news feed would publish something without providing the name of the spokesperson. I think I'll use the pen name PANTS so they can see what is like to be criticized by a faceless "group"

Anyone thinking this story was "just something that happened a long time ago" CLEARLY has not been following this story. There are many questions about how this connects to Rogers' current activities. See WSB: http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/sen-majority-leader-once-regular-sports-handicappi/nPFLc/

As committee chair of Georgia's Voice for Educational Choice I want to offer Chip Rogers our support in his re-election campaign for Senate. He has made many positive advancements since taking office and has proven he is more then capable to continue in this position.

I'm so sorry Kara. I know that he has been a champion to your cause but you may want to withhold your unequivocal support until everything plays out. I certainly don't advocate putting stock in rumors but I believe that there are quite a few more questions forthcoming that may cause even more folks to reconsider their support for him. Quite frankly the gambling hasn't been the biggest source of discontent with folks, the meth 6 bailout has been. The disclosure of the details of his relationship with the man he sold the motel to - and the surprising fact that he knew this individual for over 20 years has only added to his constituents disappointment with him. And telling folks to take personal responsibility while taking a bailout... I would've hoped to see him humbled and sympathetic to the plight of others by what has happened to him... Instead he's just been... I don't know what. Very disappointing. I know so many folks that feel completely betrayed by him, that believe he has been beyond hypocritical and are just shocked that he won't take responsibility for his involvement in the handicapping. He was just an actor reading a script? Really? NO ONE believes that. He would just be better off owning up to everything and csaying he was "young and stupid" and made some very poor decisions.

Oh well.... I guess we'll see how things play out... He's lost my vote. Not because of his past mistakes - because they could've happened to any one of us - he's lost my vote because of his RESPONSES to these events. I would've wanted my sons to acknowledge their past, own up to their mistakes and make amends. He had a great opportunity to "feel our pain". Instead he's blamed the media, a poor Emory student, gutter politics... Blaming everyone. I am so disappointed in how he's handled this. But, this has been a great teachable moment for my sons... I will say that.

Kat, I would appreciate it if you would keep the sarcasm to yourself. If you ask anyone who comments frequently on the patch I have been highly respectful to everyone's opinions and have never name called, been rude or condescending. I feel everyone is entitled to their opinion. Which is why I did not say anything rude regarding the group that asked for Rogers resignation. They are entitled to that view. And myself and GVEC is entitled to the opposite view. Senator Rogers has always been available to speak with, to consult with and to share his opinions and passion for what he is fighting for. I commend him on that. He is accessible to the public. I also believe whether you agree or disagree with his positions that his heart is in the best possible place for Georgians. That is why he has my support.

Explain how running away with 1 million dollars and hanging out with a convicted felon in 2010 and 2011 is a good thing and helps your cause? Truth is I don't know if Chip really is for school choice- probably just getting paid off.

Kara - I sincerely apologize if you think I was being sarcastic. I most definitely did not intend for it to come out that way and as I retread my posts I still don't quite understand what you think I was being sarcastic about. I absolutely feel sorry for his supporters and most especially his children. I simply don't believe that he has responded in the way I hoped he would have. People love stories of redemption - especially with their politicians - and I think that if he had responded differently to to these facts coming out he could've come out of this a stronger, more admirable person. I'm not being sarcastic when I say that. Once upon a time I voted for Chip Rogers..... But by failing to take esponsibility for all that currently being revealed he simply is no longer the role model he used to be for my sons. You and your group are entitled to your view, I didn't name call and I don't think think I was being rude or disrespectful. I was merely stating that I believe this situation is going to get worse before it gets better and that many, many voters will not be voting for him not because of his mistakes from long ago but because of his RESPONSES to those mistakes NOW. So again I apologize, I certainly don't think I said anything that was sarcastic rude or disrespectful but I do appreciate that you are one of the more positive voices on these blogs and if you perceived my comments that way... I believe that I need to apologize for them.

And for the record, he may have been responsive to you and you group but I have sent him many emails over the years, dating back to the start of the math controversy years ago and I have placed many phone calls to his office and I have NEVER, not a single time, received a response or phone call from him or any member of his staff. I have MANY friends that have had the same experience. I believe he is very selective about who he communicates with. I understand he is a very busy man, but he seems to be very selective in who he chooses to communicate with.

He claims his job had NOTHING to do with gambling. That is a load of garbage Guy! If he wants to stand on his record, then so be it, but DO NOT give him a pass for his blatant lies.
Max Jackson June 11, 2012 at 01:53 PM
You are exactly right Brian. Chip has demonstrated over and over that his only loyalty is to the almighty dollar. He does not care about the citizens of Cherokee County!

Kat!!! I finally came across your existence. lol! Let me explain, there were, and may still be, a group of ppl from CCA who believe that I am you. One Mikael Kient even asked me right out if I were you. I had no idea of what anyone was talking about and they wouldn't elaborate as they thought I was denying this identity! wow. i guess those few can stop being rude rumor spreaders now. But I doubt it.
