Kelly Marlow has resigned from the Cherokee County School Board.

Marlow, who was convicted last weekend on two felony counts of making false statements when she accused Cherokee Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo of trying to run her and two friends over last year, submitted her resignation via email to State Superintendent Dr. John Barge, Cherokee County School District spokesperson Barbara Jacoby said.

Gov. Nathan Deal, Cherokee school board members, school board attorney Tom Roach and Petruzielo were all copied on the correspondence (which is attached), Jacoby said.

Marlow had been suspended from the board upon initial conviction, which is required by state law.

Local law requires the Cherokee County School Board to call a special election to fill vacancies "when more than half of the term remains," Jacoby added. Marlow's term expires on Dec. 31, 2016.

Marlow along with political consultant Robert Trim and Woodstock resident Barbara Knowles, will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 1 in Cherokee County Superior Court.

Trim was found guilty on two counts of making false statements while Knowles, the former secretary of the Cherokee County Republican Party, was convicted on one count of filing a false police report and two counts of making false statements.

The convictions stem from the trio’s allegations that Petruzielo tried to run them over as they crossed East Main Street in front of the Painted Pig Tavern in downtown Canton following a contentious June 13 school board meeting.

Steve you are exactly right. This woman should be sued into the dirt and relegated to living in a box at the corner of 92 and 575. Then her husband would have realized he should have let her take the yoga classes and spend more time at the Hartsfield/Latoya Jackson Hairport and Nail Salon.

I think she should get a job as a flagger on highway construction sites. Then she can find out what getting almost run down really feels like.

Now that this is behind you, maybe all of you will focus your anger and frustration towards a productive end. The name calling and insults won't change the fact that Cherokee High School has a graduation rate of 71%. The misdirected anger and insults won't change the cumulative CCSD graduation rate of 78%. This venom spewing certainly isn't helping the 150 - 400 students who drop out of each high school in the district high schools before 12th grade. Marlow is out of your lives. Tackle the tough issues in your school district. Make all the noise you can! Do it for the right issues and with the right purpose.

As the sentencing process transpired today, it was poetic justice to hear the judge debase her and her co-conspirators to be handed down with harsh criticism about her using her political position and never to be in politics ever again!
