Over 100 More Students To Enroll in Cherokee School District

The Cherokee County School District on Thursday released its annual First Day Facts report.

When classes resume on Aug. 5, the Cherokee County School District is expected to have an additional 104 students enroll in its facilities.

The district will start classes with 39,324 students, according to the district's annual First Day Facts report.

Other interesting facts about the Cherokee County School District as it heads into its 2013-14 school year include: 

  • The district is the largest employer in Cherokee County, with 4,439 employees, including 2,669 certified staff; 
  • Fifty school buses will transport approximately 70% of the district's student population (23,000 students each morning and 26,000 students each afternoon); 
  • CCSD school buses will travel more than 4.5 million miles (about 1,450 bus routes daily) this school year. 
  • Cherokee has cut 50 driver positions and consolidated more than 200 bus routes in the last four years due to budget constraints; 
  • 2013-14 regular prices for school lunches and breakfasts will be $1.25 for elementary/middle/high breakfast; $2 for elementary lunch; $2.25 for middle/high school lunch; $1.75 for visitor breakfast (adult or child); and $3 for visitor lunch (adult or child)
  • Roughly 32 percent of enrolled students qualified for free or reduced price meals in 2012-13. 
The First Day Facts report includes information such as highlights from the district's fiscal year budget, an outline of how its students perform on standardized tests and what initiatives its implemented over the last school year.
