Petition Asks Kelly Marlow To "Rescind Complaint" to AdvancED

A petition on Change.org is asking Marlow to retract her complaint to AdvancED regarding the Cherokee School Board's actions.

Editor's note: Patch has reached out to Marlow and is waiting to hear back.

Local residents have created a petition asking Cherokee County School Board member Kelly Marlow to "rescind" her complaint to AdvancED, calling for the organization to investigate her colleagues.

Posted under the name as Cherokee County Parents, part of the petition reads Marlow "clearly seeks to destroy the excellent education system in our community, therefore jeopardizing scholarship opportunities for our children and affecting our home values."

In her complaint to AdvancED, Marlow said the "unprofessional relationship between our board, the taxpaying citizens and the professional staff is of serious concern."

She also said some board members and even Cherokee County School District staff members use the threat of an investigation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, or SACS, to "render the members of our Board of Education completely useless."

As of Saturday, the petition had 200 signatures.

The petition comes on the heels of a Facebook group SCRAM, or Smart Citizens Rally Against Marlow), officially making its debut on the social networking website last week.

SCRAM has over 500 members and states its job is to "preserve the school system that is the linchpin of our community."

Along with serving as a way to communicate with "with all the relevant players," SCRAM also states it will serve as a "cache of information regarding the actions of Mrs. Marlow and her surrogates to sabotage CCSD."

Both the petition and the Facebook group follows a decision by teacher Jennifer Hall to file another formal complaint with the school district regarding Marlow's actions.

The teacher said Marlow told local news outlets her complaint against her was false and that she was a "pawn" of the school district administration.

She also said Marlow referred to her as being "disingenuous and divisive" by speaking out at school board meetings and filing complaints, and concludes Marlow's statements are a form of intimidation.

Tell us: should Marlow rescind her complaint to AdvancED?
